Autoimmune Conditions

Meaning

Autoimmune Conditions represent a class of disorders where the body’s immune system mistakenly targets and attacks its own healthy tissues, failing to distinguish between self and non-self antigens. In the context of hormonal health, these conditions frequently involve endocrine glands, leading to impaired hormone production or action. Examples include Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, where the thyroid gland is destroyed, and Type 1 diabetes, which involves the destruction of insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. These pathological processes create chronic inflammation and subsequent hormonal deficiencies or excesses, significantly impacting metabolic and overall physiological well-being.
