Auto-Regulatory Capacity

Meaning

Auto-Regulatory Capacity refers to the intrinsic physiological ability of an organ, system, or the entire organism to maintain a stable internal environment, or homeostasis, despite external or internal perturbations, without requiring external control signals. This inherent self-governance ensures that critical parameters, such as blood flow, glucose levels, or hormone concentrations, remain within a narrow, functional range. A robust auto-regulatory capacity is a key indicator of biological resilience and overall health, particularly in the face of metabolic or environmental challenges. Diminished capacity often precedes the onset of chronic functional decline.
