Attention Economy

Meaning

Within the context of hormonal health, the Attention Economy is a conceptual framework viewing an individual’s cognitive focus and mental energy as a finite, valuable resource that is constantly being depleted or replenished. This resource management directly influences the prefrontal cortex’s executive functions, which are highly sensitive to stress hormones like cortisol. Sustained high demand on attention can trigger chronic sympathetic nervous system activation, thereby destabilizing the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. Preserving attentional resources is therefore a critical component of stress mitigation and hormonal balance.
