ATP Scarcity

Meaning

Describes a state of insufficient cellular levels of Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP), the primary energy currency of the cell, to meet the metabolic demands of physiological functions. This energy deficit compromises cellular integrity and signaling, severely affecting high-demand tissues like the brain, heart, and endocrine glands. Clinically, ATP scarcity underlies many age-related dysfunctions and states of chronic fatigue or metabolic stress.
