Atherothrombotic Events

Meaning

Atherothrombotic events represent acute clinical syndromes caused by the formation of a thrombus, or blood clot, upon an unstable atherosclerotic plaque within an artery. This pathological process critically impedes or completely obstructs arterial blood flow, leading to tissue ischemia or infarction in vital organs. Examples include myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke, and acute limb ischemia.
