Atherothrombotic Events

Meaning

Atherothrombotic events are acute clinical manifestations, such as myocardial infarction or ischemic stroke, resulting from the combined pathological processes of atherosclerosis and thrombosis. Atherosclerosis involves the formation of plaque within the arterial walls, which subsequently predisposes the site to rupture and the formation of a local thrombus, or blood clot. This sudden occlusion of blood flow to vital organs represents a major endpoint in cardiovascular disease and is significantly influenced by underlying hormonal and metabolic health.
