AST

Meaning

AST, or Aspartate Aminotransferase, is a clinically significant enzyme that is routinely measured in serum as a biomarker of cellular integrity and potential tissue damage. Elevated levels of AST in a patient’s blood work primarily suggest injury to cells rich in this enzyme, most notably hepatocytes in the liver and myocytes in skeletal and cardiac muscle. Monitoring this transaminase is a standard practice in hormonal health protocols, particularly when assessing the impact of certain therapeutic agents on hepatic function and overall metabolic health.
