Asialoglycoprotein Receptor

Meaning

The Asialoglycoprotein Receptor, often abbreviated ASGPR, is a critical transmembrane protein predominantly found on the surface of liver cells, known as hepatocytes. This receptor specifically identifies and binds to glycoproteins that have undergone desialylation, a process where their terminal sialic acid residues are removed, thereby exposing underlying galactose or N-acetylgalactosamine sugars.
