Arrhythmias

Meaning

Arrhythmias are clinically defined as any irregularity in the heart’s electrical conduction system, manifesting as a heart rhythm that deviates from the normal sinus rhythm, presenting as too rapid, too slow, or simply chaotic. These electrical disturbances compromise the heart’s pumping efficiency, which can lead to inadequate systemic blood flow and impact the delivery of hormones and nutrients to peripheral tissues. Endocrine dysfunctions, such as hyperthyroidism or imbalances in catecholamines, are recognized factors that can initiate or aggravate these cardiac rhythm abnormalities.
