Aromatase Inhibitor-Associated Musculoskeletal Syndrome

Meaning

Aromatase Inhibitor-Associated Musculoskeletal Syndrome, or AIMSS, is a common and sometimes debilitating side effect of endocrine therapy used to treat hormone-sensitive breast cancer in postmenopausal women. The syndrome presents as diffuse joint pain, stiffness, and occasionally tendonitis or carpal tunnel syndrome, significantly impairing mobility and daily function. Clinical presentation often includes bilateral and symmetrical joint involvement, particularly in the hands, knees, and back.
