Aromatase Disorder

Meaning

An Aromatase Disorder represents a spectrum of clinical conditions characterized by the pathological dysregulation of the aromatase enzyme, which is encoded by the CYP19A1 gene. This critical enzyme is responsible for the final and rate-limiting step in the biosynthesis of estrogens from androgen precursors. Consequently, a disorder in this pathway results in an abnormal balance of sex hormones, manifesting as either a deficiency or an excess of estrogen. Clinical presentation can vary significantly by sex and age, impacting pubertal development, bone health, and metabolic function.
