Arginine Vasopressin

Meaning

Arginine Vasopressin, commonly referred to as AVP or Antidiuretic Hormone (ADH), is a peptide hormone synthesized by neurosecretory cells in the hypothalamus and subsequently released from the posterior pituitary gland. Its primary physiological functions include the regulation of body fluid osmolality through water reabsorption in the kidneys and the modulation of systemic vascular resistance via its vasoconstrictive effects on blood vessels. This hormone plays a pivotal role in maintaining fluid balance and blood pressure stability.
