Arginine Vasopressin

Meaning

Arginine Vasopressin (AVP), also clinically known as antidiuretic hormone (ADH), is a crucial nonapeptide hormone synthesized in the hypothalamic nuclei and released from the posterior pituitary gland. Its primary physiological role is the precise regulation of the body’s water balance and plasma osmolality. AVP also functions as a potent vasoconstrictor, contributing significantly to the moment-to-moment regulation of systemic blood pressure in the circulatory system.
