Area under Curve

Meaning

Area under Curve, or AUC, is a fundamental pharmacokinetic parameter representing the total systemic exposure of the body to a drug or hormone over a specified period. Clinically, it quantifies the total amount of active substance that reaches the bloodstream and and is available to exert its biological effect. A higher AUC generally correlates with greater overall drug action, assuming the concentration remains within the therapeutic window. This metric is essential for comparing the bioavailability and efficacy of different formulations or administration routes in hormonal therapy.
