Arcuate Nucleus

Meaning

The Arcuate Nucleus is a critical cluster of neurons situated in the mediobasal hypothalamus, serving as a central hub for regulating energy homeostasis and neuroendocrine functions. This distinct brain region contains specific neuronal populations, including those producing neuropeptide Y (NPY) and Agouti-related peptide (AgRP), which stimulate appetite, and pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) and cocaine- and amphetamine-regulated transcript (CART), which suppress appetite.
