AR Splice Variants

Meaning

Naturally occurring isoforms of the Androgen Receptor (AR) protein that are generated through the process of alternative splicing of the primary AR messenger RNA transcript. These variants typically lack the ligand-binding domain (LBD) of the full-length receptor, enabling them to remain constitutively active and translocate to the nucleus even in the absence of circulating androgen ligands like testosterone or dihydrotestosterone. They represent a significant mechanism of resistance to androgen deprivation therapies in certain clinical contexts.
