Apolipoprotein A1

Meaning

Apolipoprotein A1, commonly abbreviated as ApoA1, is the principal protein component of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) particles, often referred to as “good cholesterol.” This protein plays a fundamental role in lipid metabolism, acting as a crucial structural and functional element of the HDL complex. Measuring ApoA1 levels offers a more precise assessment of cardiovascular risk than simply measuring total HDL cholesterol alone. Higher concentrations of ApoA1 are generally associated with a reduced risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
