APOE4 Genotype

Meaning

The APOE4 genotype refers to a specific genetic variation of the apolipoprotein E gene, located on chromosome 17. Humans inherit two copies of the APOE gene, one from each parent; these copies can be any combination of three common alleles: ε2, ε3, or ε4. The presence of one or two ε4 alleles constitutes the APOE4 genotype, distinct from other allelic combinations.
