ApoB Lipid Testing

Meaning

A specific clinical diagnostic test that measures the concentration of Apolipoprotein B (ApoB) in the blood plasma. ApoB is the primary structural protein found on all atherogenic lipoprotein particles, including low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL). This measurement provides a superior assessment of cardiovascular risk compared to traditional LDL cholesterol metrics alone, as it quantifies the total number of circulating atherogenic particles. Elevated ApoB levels are a direct marker of increased risk for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
