ApoB Cardiovascular Risk

Meaning

ApoB Cardiovascular Risk refers to the clinical assessment of atherosclerotic disease risk based on the circulating concentration of Apolipoprotein B (ApoB), the primary structural protein of atherogenic lipoproteins. Since each potentially harmful lipoprotein particle, including LDL and VLDL, contains exactly one ApoB molecule, the ApoB count provides a direct and accurate measure of the total number of particles that can initiate plaque formation in arterial walls. This metric is often considered superior to standard LDL-cholesterol measurements for predicting cardiovascular events.
