Antiestrogen Therapy

Meaning

Antiestrogen therapy is a critical endocrine treatment modality involving the systemic administration of agents that block the biological effects of estrogen within the body. This therapy is a foundational component in the clinical management of hormone-sensitive malignancies, most notably estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer, where estrogen acts as a potent mitogen. It is also selectively employed in reproductive endocrinology for fertility regulation and the management of certain estrogen-dependent symptoms. The goal is to deprive target tissues of estrogenic stimulation, thereby inhibiting cellular proliferation and growth.
