Anti-Resorptive Therapy

Meaning

Anti-resorptive therapy encompasses a class of pharmacological treatments specifically designed to reduce the rate of bone turnover by inhibiting the activity of osteoclasts, the cells responsible for bone resorption. These therapeutic agents are a cornerstone in the clinical management of conditions characterized by excessive bone loss, most notably osteoporosis and Paget’s disease of bone. The primary goal is to preserve existing bone mineral density and significantly decrease the risk of fragility fractures, thereby improving long-term skeletal integrity. Effective management requires careful consideration of the balance between bone formation and resorption.
