Anti-PEG Antibodies

Meaning

Anti-PEG Antibodies are immunoglobulins produced by the body’s immune system specifically targeting Polyethylene Glycol, or PEG, which is a common polymer used to modify pharmaceutical agents. PEGylation is a technique used to prolong the half-life and reduce the immunogenicity of therapeutic proteins and peptides, often including hormone preparations. The presence of these antibodies can diminish the therapeutic efficacy of PEGylated drugs by accelerating their clearance or causing hypersensitivity reactions. Clinically, screening for these antibodies may become necessary to predict patient response to certain long-acting hormonal therapies.
