Anti-Müllerian Hormone

Meaning

Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) is a dimeric glycoprotein belonging to the transforming growth factor-beta superfamily, playing a crucial role in reproductive development and function across both sexes. In females, AMH is produced by the granulosa cells of small ovarian follicles and serves as a reliable clinical biomarker for ovarian reserve, correlating with the number of remaining primordial follicles. In males, it is secreted by Sertoli cells during fetal development to induce the regression of the Müllerian ducts, which would otherwise develop into female internal reproductive structures.
