Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH)

Meaning

Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) is a dimeric glycoprotein primarily secreted by granulosa cells of small, growing follicles in the ovaries of females, and by Sertoli cells in the testes of males. In females, AMH levels directly correlate with the number of primordial follicles remaining in the ovarian reserve, offering a quantitative assessment of reproductive potential. During male fetal development, AMH is crucial for the regression of the Müllerian ducts, preventing the formation of female internal reproductive organs.
