Anti-Inflammatory Cytokines

Meaning

Anti-inflammatory cytokines are a specific group of signaling proteins, or immunomodulators, released by immune cells that function to actively suppress inflammation and promote tissue homeostasis. These molecules counterbalance the effects of pro-inflammatory cytokines, playing a critical role in resolving acute inflammatory responses and preventing the transition to chronic, systemic inflammation. Key examples include Interleukin-4 (IL-4), Interleukin-10 (IL-10), and Transforming Growth Factor-beta (TGF-β).
