Anti-Drug Antibodies

Meaning

Anti-drug antibodies (ADAs) are immune system proteins produced by the body in response to a therapeutic agent, particularly large molecule biologics or peptide-based hormones, recognizing the drug as a foreign antigen. This immunological response can neutralize the therapeutic agent, reducing its effective concentration and clinical efficacy, or potentially cause adverse hypersensitivity reactions. The formation of ADAs is a significant clinical consideration in hormone replacement therapies utilizing non-native peptide structures.
