Anti-Androgenic Progestins

Meaning

A specific class of synthetic progestogens utilized in hormonal therapy and contraception that possess the unique pharmacological property of counteracting the biological effects of androgens at the cellular level. These compounds bind to and block the androgen receptor, mitigating the clinical manifestations of androgen excess, such as hirsutism, acne, and androgenic alopecia. Their clinical application is distinct from traditional progestins, which primarily modulate the progesterone receptor and the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis.
