Anti-Androgen Withdrawal Syndrome

Meaning

Anti-Androgen Withdrawal Syndrome describes a paradoxical clinical phenomenon where a subset of prostate cancer patients, whose disease has progressed despite ongoing anti-androgen therapy, experience a temporary regression or stabilization of their cancer upon the cessation of the anti-androgen medication. This observation suggests an adaptive mechanism within the cancer cells, where the continued presence of the anti-androgen might paradoxically stimulate growth or maintain resistance.
