Anovulatory Cycles

Meaning

Anovulatory Cycles are menstrual cycles characterized by the failure of the ovary to release a mature egg, or oocyte, despite the occurrence of menstrual-like bleeding. This condition means that ovulation does not take place, resulting in the absence of a corpus luteum and subsequent progesterone production during the second half of the cycle. Clinically, anovulatory cycles are a common cause of female infertility and are often associated with irregular, heavy, or absent menstrual periods. Recognizing this pattern is critical for diagnosing underlying endocrine imbalances that disrupt the delicate reproductive axis.
