Anorexigenic

Meaning

Anorexigenic describes any substance, signal, or physiological process that leads to the suppression of appetite and a reduction in food intake. These signals act upon the central nervous system, particularly the hypothalamus, to promote a feeling of satiety and decrease the motivation to seek food. Hormones and neuropeptides that exhibit anorexigenic properties are fundamental components of the complex homeostatic system regulating energy balance and body weight. Clinical interventions often seek to modulate these pathways to assist in weight management and address metabolic health challenges.
