Anhedonia

Meaning

Anhedonia is a core clinical symptom characterized by a significantly reduced ability to experience pleasure from activities that were previously enjoyable, or a diminished capacity to anticipate pleasure. This neurological state is often associated with dysregulation in the brain’s reward circuitry, particularly the dopaminergic pathways. In hormonal health, anhedonia can be a significant manifestation of underlying endocrine imbalance, such as hypothyroidism, adrenal dysfunction, or low levels of key sex hormones like testosterone or estrogen, which influence neurotransmitter sensitivity.
