Andropause

Meaning

Andropause, often referred to clinically as late-onset hypogonadism or age-related testosterone deficiency, describes the gradual decline in bioavailable androgen levels that occurs in aging males. This physiological transition is characterized by a constellation of non-specific symptoms, including diminished libido, decreased muscle mass, visceral adiposity accumulation, and mood alterations. It represents a subtle, progressive hormonal shift distinct from the abrupt cessation of gonadal function seen in female menopause.
