Andropause Myth

Meaning

The “Andropause Myth” refers to the common, yet scientifically inaccurate, belief that men experience a sudden, complete cessation of gonadal function comparable to the female menopause. Unlike the definitive ovarian failure observed in women, male testosterone levels typically undergo a slow, progressive decline over decades, a condition more accurately diagnosed as late-onset hypogonadism or age-related androgen deficiency. This term serves to correct the mischaracterization of the male aging process by highlighting the physiological difference in reproductive decline.
