Androgen Receptors

Meaning

Androgen Receptors are specialized intracellular proteins that bind to androgenic steroid hormones, such as testosterone and dihydrotestosterone. Upon ligand binding, these receptors undergo a conformational change, allowing them to translocate to the nucleus and modulate gene transcription. They function as ligand-activated transcription factors critical for male sexual development, secondary sexual characteristic maintenance, and anabolic processes. Their presence and activity dictate the cellular response to circulating androgens.
