Androgen Receptor Agonism

Meaning

Androgen receptor agonism describes the biological process where a specific molecule, known as an agonist, binds to and activates the androgen receptor (AR) to elicit a characteristic biological response. The androgen receptor is a nuclear receptor protein found in various tissues throughout the body. Agonism results in the translocation of the activated receptor complex into the cell nucleus, where it binds to specific DNA sequences to regulate gene transcription. This activation drives the development of male characteristics and maintains anabolic functions like muscle growth and bone density.
