Androgen Ratios

Meaning

The quantitative relationship between two or more androgen hormones, such as the ratio of testosterone to epitestosterone or the ratio of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) to cortisol. Clinically, these ratios are crucial diagnostic tools used to assess the delicate balance of the endocrine system’s androgenic activity. Imbalances in these hormonal proportions can indicate underlying conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or adrenal dysfunction. Monitoring these specific ratios provides a more nuanced understanding of androgen status than evaluating a single hormone level alone.
