Androgen Insensitivity

Meaning

Androgen Insensitivity is a genetic condition characterized by the body’s inability to respond normally to androgens, which are male sex hormones. This cellular unresponsiveness occurs despite the presence of circulating androgen levels, leading to a spectrum of presentations where an individual with a 46,XY karyotype develops external genitalia that are female, ambiguous, or undervirilized. The condition affects sexual differentiation and the development of secondary sexual characteristics.
