Androgen Exposure

Meaning

Androgen exposure refers to the total biological contact and subsequent effect of androgenic hormones, such as testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT), on their specific target tissues throughout the body. This exposure includes both the endogenous production by the gonads and adrenal glands and any exogenous introduction via therapeutic administration. The concentration, duration, and local tissue sensitivity to these steroids are critical determinants of development, secondary sex characteristics, and overall metabolic health. Appropriate exposure is necessary for maintaining muscle mass and bone density in both sexes.
