Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT)

Meaning

Androgen Deprivation Therapy, or ADT, is a clinical treatment strategy designed to reduce the levels of androgens, such as testosterone and dihydrotestosterone, in the body. This therapeutic approach is primarily utilized in the management of androgen-sensitive cancers, most notably prostate cancer. The rationale behind ADT is that many prostate cancer cells require androgens for growth and survival. By significantly lowering these hormone concentrations, the therapy aims to slow disease progression and reduce tumor burden.
