Androgen-Dependent

Meaning

Androgen-Dependent describes any biological tissue, cell process, or pathological condition whose growth, differentiation, or function relies directly upon the presence and action of androgens, such as testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This reliance highlights the pervasive regulatory role of male sex hormones throughout the body, extending beyond reproductive function. The term is clinically significant in understanding the etiology and treatment of various endocrine-related diseases. Many secondary sexual characteristics and muscle mass maintenance are examples of androgen-dependent processes.
