Androgen Deficiency in Women

Meaning

Androgen Deficiency in Women (ADW) is a clinical syndrome characterized by consistently low levels of circulating androgens, such as testosterone and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S), coupled with associated clinical symptoms. This endocrine imbalance can manifest as diminished libido, persistent fatigue, decreased sense of well-being, and potentially reduced bone mineral density. Diagnosis requires careful correlation between specific clinical features and biochemical confirmation of low androgen levels, excluding other underlying causes. This condition is often seen post-oophorectomy or during the menopausal transition.
