Androgen Decline in Aging

Meaning

This clinical term refers to the gradual, age-associated reduction in the production and circulating levels of androgens, primarily testosterone and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), observed in both males and females. This decline is a natural physiological change distinct from overt pathological hypogonadism, although the resulting clinical symptoms can significantly overlap. It is often clinically correlated with adverse changes in body composition, reduced energy, and mood lability, impacting overall vitality and healthspan.
