Androgen-Binding Protein

Meaning

Androgen-Binding Protein (ABP) is a glycoprotein produced primarily by Sertoli cells in the seminiferous tubules of the testes. Its function involves binding to androgens like testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT), maintaining high local concentrations of these hormones within the testicular fluid. This localized presence is critical for spermatogenesis, the process of sperm development.
