Androgen-Binding Protein

Meaning

Androgen-Binding Protein (ABP) is a specific glycoprotein synthesized and secreted by the Sertoli cells within the seminiferous tubules of the testes. Its essential function involves binding to key androgens, predominantly testosterone and dihydrotestosterone, within the reproductive tract fluid. This binding is critical for maintaining the high local concentrations of these steroid hormones that are indispensable for the entire process of spermatogenesis.
