Androgen Axis

Meaning

The Androgen Axis represents the complex, integrated network of hormonal signaling that governs the production, regulation, and biological activity of androgens, the primary class of male sex hormones. This system includes the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis, along with peripheral tissue conversion and receptor-mediated action. It is a critical component of the endocrine system, regulating male reproductive function, muscle mass, bone density, and overall vitality in both sexes. Disruptions within this axis can manifest as hypogonadism, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), or other significant endocrine disorders.
