Anabolic versus Catabolic Signaling

Meaning

This fundamental physiological dichotomy describes the opposing metabolic states that govern tissue balance, health, and longevity. Anabolic signaling refers to the processes that build and repair complex molecules from simpler ones, promoting growth, tissue maintenance, and energy storage. Conversely, catabolic signaling involves the breakdown of complex molecules into simpler ones, releasing energy and providing substrates, often dominating during periods of stress, fasting, or intense physical demand.
