Anabolic Steroid Induced Hypogonadism

Meaning

A clinical condition characterized by impaired gonadal function, specifically reduced endogenous testosterone production and/or spermatogenesis, resulting from the exogenous administration of anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS). This secondary form of hypogonadism occurs when the body’s natural feedback loops are suppressed by the introduction of supraphysiological levels of synthetic hormones. Recognizing this state is crucial for addressing the hormonal imbalances and associated symptoms experienced by individuals discontinuing AAS use.
