Anabolic Signaling Impairment

Meaning

A pathophysiological condition characterized by a reduced cellular responsiveness to anabolic hormones and growth factors, such as testosterone, growth hormone, and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). This impairment leads to a net catabolic state, resulting in progressive loss of lean muscle mass, reduced bone mineral density, and slowed tissue repair. It is a hallmark of sarcopenia and age-related decline in endocrine function.
