Anabolic Resistance State

Meaning

A physiological condition characterized by a diminished capacity of muscle and other tissues to respond optimally to anabolic stimuli, such as amino acids, particularly leucine, and anabolic hormones like insulin and growth factors. This impaired responsiveness leads to a reduced rate of protein synthesis and a net catabolic shift, which is often observed in aging, chronic disease, or periods of severe metabolic stress. Clinically, this state represents a critical barrier to maintaining or increasing lean body mass, impacting overall metabolic health and functional capacity.
