Anabolic-Induced Infertility

Meaning

Anabolic-induced infertility refers to the suppression of endogenous reproductive function resulting from the exogenous administration of anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS) or related compounds. This iatrogenic condition disrupts the delicate hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis, leading to compromised spermatogenesis in males and anovulation in females. Clinicians must meticulously evaluate a patient’s history of anabolic use when investigating primary or secondary infertility.
