Anabolic-Androgenic Steroid-Induced Hypogonadism

Meaning

Anabolic-Androgenic Steroid-Induced Hypogonadism (ASIH) is a clinical condition defined by the functional incompetence of the testes, resulting in subnormal testosterone and/or sperm production. This endocrine dysfunction arises as a direct consequence of the administration of exogenous anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS). Symptoms commonly manifest upon cessation of AAS use, encompassing decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and potential testicular atrophy. Recovery is highly variable and can be prolonged, presenting a significant clinical challenge for affected individuals.
