Amyloid-Beta Accumulation

Meaning

Amyloid-beta accumulation refers to the pathological aggregation of amyloid-beta (Aβ) peptides, specifically Aβ40 and Aβ42, into insoluble plaques within the brain parenchyma. This process represents a primary neuropathological feature associated with neurodegenerative conditions, particularly Alzheimer’s disease. The peptides misfold and clump together, disrupting normal cellular function and contributing to neuronal dysfunction.
